My name is Gloria (I’m the owner of this website) and I wanted to share my “Dream Come True” Passion Pet Store story with you.

Not that I am anyone famous, or even someone that has tons of money to open a regular down town pet business or a big time pet franchise pet store or someone like that.

I am just a pet lover, and they have been a part of my life since I was a little girl. I can’t even remember a time when I didn’t have a cat, dog or even a parakeet & some fish.

Yes, I am a pet lover and I “Got the T-shirt!!!”

Have you ever heard the saying that claims “Do what you love and the money will follow?” What I am about to share with you is exactly that.

Well I believe I have finally found a business system that can do just that for me.
Imagine making my “Passion for Pets” into an easy to operate successful online business. I will be doing a job that I will love doing every day!!!

How cool is that! I’ll be selling great stuff for pets AND absoulutely be “Lovin’ Every Minute” while I’m doing it.

First off let me tell you a little about myself.

I am a self-employed, work at home girl, and live in ,.  I don’t have any children, however, I do have two dogs that I treat like my kids.  Yes, I have to confess I do spoil them a little.  The oldest is a Border Collie named Alex, who is 8 years old and my newest is a Belgium Shepherd named Elzarra. She is only 1 year and a half.

Since they are both high energy breeds, they need to have lots of exercise. Alex likes the hard rubber kongs and absolutely destroys the soft plush toys. I stopped giving them to hom because it look like an explosion of stuffing all over the carpet!

Elzarra’s favorites are the squeaky toys and balls. We play catch every morning. They both also love rawhide chews, but I only give them as a special treat. So I am always buying toys for them. Which I suppose was why I would often dream of owning my own pet store.  I used to spend so much time and money at them. The pet stores I go to are always super busy too, so when I didn’t want to fight the crowds, I started to shop online.

That’s when I found a website called ILUVPETS,  that was literally the answer to my dreams.  ILUVPETS would help me with everything I needed to start my own online pet store. Imagine that, this was the simple way for me to begin doing MY Passion Job!

I Can Now Own My Own Online Pet Store!

I know that there are a lot of people out there and quite a few of them have at least 1 pet. Also, I know from my own personal experience, I will buy stuff for my pet quicker than what I would buy stuff for myself. I love them that much. PERIOD!  And I know that my friends that have dogs & cats, feel the very same way I do. The truth is:

PET LOVERS SPEND MONEY ON THEIR PETS!

So when I was checking out the “ILUVPETS” website to find out how to get started with my own online pet store I learned even more interesting facts.

Yes, I already knew that dogs and cats are the most popular pets, but I didn’t realize that   there are an estimated 16 million birds, and an astonishing 142 million fish being cared for by pet lovers in the United States alone?

Also they report “Americans spend an average of $150.00 a month on their pets.”

And the other night on Nightline, they did a report and said the slow economy hadn’t affected the Pet Industry that much and that people are still buying stuff for their pets.

There was a lady selling pet products at a home party like Tupperware. What a neat idea.

Now I plan to cash in on this awesome opportunity with my own online pet supply store!  Also I can open my own online pet supply store FREE for a limited time!

This is my chance to actually have My Passion Pet Store.

This is just so great, because ILUVPETS will provide everything for me to run a successful online business.

I can’t believe I’ll be getting a FREE  ILUVPETS startup kit in the mail. They didn’t even charge a SETUP FEE, I only had to pay shipping!

I’ll be actually getting my very own prebuilt store, complete with popular pet products in a variety of categories. They will stock all of the products and ship everything for me.

Plus they are going to help me be successful by including an iStore Quickstart Marketing Guide.  I will be up and running and getting money super fast. I am so excited, I can’t wait til my Free Kit arrives. I have already started to tell my friends.

The great thing about an online store is that it remains open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and I won’t have any employees to worry about!

I’ll let you know more as soon as I get started. Unless, of course, I am just so busy with my new Passion Pet Store I don’t have time!

I really want my parents to get me a dog.
I’m trying to convince them by telling them that I’d pay for all of the supplies I need.
So I need to know how much everything would cost.
It would be great if you can actually list the things I’d need.

BTW i’m 11 years old
the "average" cost
great answer Siobhán
thanks for all the great answers :) ok maybe I wouldn’t pay for EVERYTHING
how about a german shepard?

It averages around $1000 per year for most pets, and is somewhat dependent on the size of the dog. For example, small dogs eat less than large ones, and medications that are sold by weight of the dog (like heartworm prevention and flea control) are slightly less expensive for small dogs. So are crates, beds, toys and fencing for your yard (you’d need 6 foot fencing for most dogs over 40 pounds, while a 4 foot fence would contain a toy breed very safely.)

So the actual total cost is probably going to be beyond your capacity to pay, However, I think it’s very responsible of you to want to pay what you can of the dog’s care and hopefully your parents are impressed with your desire to contribute in this way. What you may want to do is come up with a monthly amount of money that you think you can earn and agree to give that to your parents each month to help out with the costs of the dog. That’s a very reasonable solution for a young person.

Even though you can’t pay for everything on your own, knowing what will be needed should impress your folks as it shows you are serious enough about a dog to have done some research! It’s very hard to put prices on most of these without knowing the size of dog or the state you live in (which you shouldn’t need to share with us.)

So here’s a list of the very basics:
-Crate
-Feeding bowls
-Toys
-Leash
-Collar or harness
-ID tag
-Annual vet visit and vaccinations ( and most years you will have a visit or two in between as the dog eats something or gets sick)
-Monthly heartworm preventative
-Monthly Flea protection
-Food
-Treats
-Annual dog license (this is usually $20 or less)
-Obedience Classes
-Boarding or a pet sitter when you go on vacation
-Cost of buying the dog itself. If you get it from a shelter, it will probably already be spayed or neutered and also microchipped. If you buy the dog from a breeder, you will often have to spay or neuter and microchip the dog yourself.

Obviously some of these expenses, like crates, leashes, bowls, spaying, etc. are incurred in the first year and then they’re under control for a long time. The first year is always expensive though because of the set-up costs, the spaying, the training, etc.

Good luck!

I am thinking about starting an online business, but I am not sure where to start. I know I need a website designed, but I am wondering about e-commerce sites and what are good products to sell online.

Anyone can create a website with many of the programs and templates that are available from the hosting companies. The difficult part is getting traffic to your website from people who will actually buy the products you offer.

You need products that people are looking for - either because they are popular, unique or fulfill some unmet need.

It would probably be easiest to get started as an independent distributor or rep for a company that provides you with a company website. Then you will already have the products and the payment gateway for online sales and you earn a commission from the sales. Look for products that you like, are consumable and purchased by most families several times a year. Most companies will also offer free training to teach you some marketing techniques.

Then drive traffic to your company website by purchasing a domain name and creating your own personal website with links to your company website. You may eventually want to sign up as a distributor for more than one company or add some affiliate program links for other products related to your website topic or theme to earn multiple streams of income.

Then to market and send traffic to your personal website you will need to learn and use several techniques: email, blogging, social networking other ways to create back links. It takes time, but through consistent effort it can be done.

There are so many websites out there that simply building a website with a bunch of products is not likely to be profitable. It is easier if you have the products, support and training from a company who uses independent distributors to market their products.

My teacher wants me to make my own business plan about a dog supplies, and i dont know how to do it. =\

Ask yourself:
What is my product? (obviously dog supplies)
What is my product portfolio?
Who are my customers?
Who are my suppliers?
How much starting captital do I need?
How do I finance it?
What are my recurring costs?
Do I need employees?
Do I need licenses?
Do I need to register for a fictitious name?
Will I run it as a sole proprietor ship or as a a corporation?
How will people learn about my store?
How long will it take for my store to return a profit?
Who is my competition?
Why should customers buy from me instead of them?
What are my strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats?
What is my mission statement?

You answer those question in an essay format and you got yourself a business plan.
